It’s getting harder and harder to get folks to pay attention to what your brand is doing on social media. It’s not all your fault—there’s just so much to see and do. You’re no longer competing against your direct competitors, you’re competing against the latest craze in mobile gaming, that viral baby elephant video, and whatever @DonaldTrump is tweeting these days.
Show, don’t tell
If you’ve ever taken a writing class or workshop, you’ve probably heard the phrase “show, don’t tell”. Want to build up a character? Show how they go about their lives, don’t tell about them. The same goes for your brand, product, service, or anything you want to communicate. Leave off the talking points and bullet points. Instead, show how people use your product, how your brand changes people’s day to day lives, or how your organization is giving back.
Gary Vaynerchuk, the content master, says “Document, don’t create.” That seems to fit into our bullet point as well. Don’t work so hard to create new videos or blog posts from scratch! Your content is all around you, show how you do your job. Show what your brand stands for. Don’t just tell about it.
Focus on your people
You know, you can’t make everyone happy. And you won’t tickle everyone’s funny bones or find the viral video that makes everyone laugh. Once you give up on making EVERYONE happy, you’ll be able to really focus on your audience.
Spend your time getting into the heads of your target group. What keeps them up at night? What makes them laugh? The closer you are to them, the better the content will resonate. And that’s exactly what you want.
Once you’ve narrowed in on your people, you can get even more granular. What if you could reach out to individuals who make up that group? Instead of one-to-many messaging, you can create custom responses and engagements. Using AI, KickFactory can comb through user profiles and messages to find the people who make up your group.
The goal is to reach them in a way they aren’t expecting—on a personal level. We’re all getting desensitized to ads and broadcast social messages. What brands aren’t doing yet is reaching out to individuals. At least not on a large scale.
Test, try again
Like any other marketing tactic, you have to evaluate what you’ve tried. Did it work? What could you do to make it better? Keep testing, keep working, and don’t give up.
